  • I think I got scolded by a hen...

Myrtle was marching up and down the path between the coop and the gate just as it was getting dark. Funny how the back of a chooks neck can radiate impatience and disapproval.

Maud was already on the perch and Madge was kicking the neatly banked shavings around the coop.

My crime? I was late providing their corn and the pop hole and front door were still open

    Must do better tomorrow.

Should be ashamed of yourself...........keeping those chooks waiting!

I used to have a cat that wanted the front and back doors open in case it wasn't raining outside one of them.

My cat does that!!! The chooks are happy though 'cos I hung up corn cobs for them all, but the looks I got when I was doing it ........................ "Come on, hurry up, we haven't got all day to wait for you to stop faffing around, and why did they get theirs before we got ours and we think theirs is bigger than ours as well so get out of the way!!"

I got a right telling-off this morning. Garnet wasn't in the run with the others. She's the quiet one and last to push forward for treats. I assumed she was in the nest box doing the business but thought I'd be a bad mummy not to check that she wasn't in the house feeling poorly and reluctant to come out. I unfastened the next box, raised the lid slightly and got a sever clucking for my pains! I closed it again and proceded to do the poo-pick duty in the run, but each time she saw me pass the house door she cluckked again! This is the wimp of the quartet! Strewth, that's me told then!

How very dare you invade Garnet's privacy.

                  Shocking behaviour!

Ref scolding chooks,i opened the nestbox lid the other day and one of my new bluebelles was trying to lay her first egg,she squarked and minnie(the bossy blackrock) flew across their pen screeching at me,for the next 10-15 seconds, and when she did stop, she never took her eyes off me. Each night she leads her pals on their march as i approach with their rice/sweetcorn,and they play follow my leader(in pecking order)all along the mesh, and then turn round to go other way.this continues until they get their treat...they are only as daft as they want to be.
