  • We seem to be really bonding now...

They came running up to me for their Flubenvet raspberries followed by their corn treat.

Then Myrtle and Madge went into the coop and allowed me to pet them under the neck and on their backs and, wait for it... Maud jumped up onto my outstretched hand

Next followed a game of run up the ladder through the coop and jump on to my foot from Myrtle and Madge and Myrtle shifted herself onto the perch. Madge seemed a bit lonely on the floor on her own so I picked her up (no struggling away from me) and popped her on the perch.

I am a very happy chook slave tonight

oo they seem to be training you well - you are their human servant only there to serve them and as you learnt should you fail in this duty then they will chastise you and sulk!!!

Sounds like your girls are lovely

Aren't we just slaves? And I couldn't be happier! Round of apppaws from Dexter, Ramsey, Crosby, and the girls, KFC!

Thanks DDL, I can't believe how gorgeous they are. Chooks sit one side of the gate staring through at the dogs on t'other side of the gate with their noses pressed to the gaps. The cat sits on a mattress up above the chooks dozing. A delightful scene (as long as I keep the flippin' gate shut)

I'm rather taken with the look of the citrus Sablepoots Jim's bought. Breeder's not very far from me either.

Lol, I'm not sure I do in the current coop and run and I don't want to cramp their style, although I let them free-range in the afternoons. I'm keeping my eyes open for superior accommodation and run length though.

Funny thing though, they've only explored a very small area to the west of their coop. Three quarters of a fairly small garden remains unutilised.

One of ours loves to jump onto your back to work her way up to your shoulder when you are bending to - poo-pick, hang up their feeder, worship at their feet, whatever. It's dead flattering at first but then I've been known to go out with chicken foot-prints up my back that I've forgotten about!

Golly gosh, how much easier it is to poo pick the coop when they roost on the perch above the newspaper

If we're going to play jump from the coop onto the slave's foot tonight I must put on thick socks first. The midges played havoc with me ankles last night

This was poo-picking in the run - not in the house!

I shall have the pleasure of poo-picking the run this afternoon (after I've pooper-scooped the dogs' doo) and while the ladies are free-ranging.

                          Just call me sh*t shoveller

Oh we're going great guns now, Madge, the shy one sat on my knee

She'd been sidling up and down some planks which are stacked (dumped) next to my chair and hopped onto my knee and let me stroke her.

Of course, she may have been trying to get onto the top of the coop where the corn dish was but I prefer to think it was lurve

I got to stroke all of them tonight

I have a little stool to sit on in the run, and some of the hens like to sit on my lap. Sometimes I get 4, 2 on each leg. In total disgust one day, I had one fly up on to a shoulder too, as there was no room elsewhere!

I also go around covered in chook-prints, but as I'm only gardening I don't suppose it matters too much!
