Well- my Lily is fine again now after 4 days of being hunched up....she's not laid her first egg- so I've no dea what was wrong- but I'm glad she's managed to sort herself out.
Fingers crossed your little gal just needs a few days longer to recover???
I'd keep an eye on the others though....

Behaviour is so odd...she's freaking out every so often and running around the pen like a maniac!! Then she just stands in the corner...and I mean pushed right in to the corner. I put a couple of her siblings in with her just to see how she reacted, and she was fine with them...so it's not fear.

I've also found a good avian vet, so I thought I'd give her a couple of days of heat, good food and water...then if she's no better...take her to this avian vet for a quick check up. If he thinks it's neurological, or something that will cause a problem then I'll cull her.

But...she's got to be worth a shot, eh? I know lots of people will be thinking "she's only a chicken", but she's MY chicken...and it's a life....so it deserves at least a small chance.

        Or...am I being mad, again??

having only just started (june) with this chicken lark, and had soooo many problems that this forum has helped me with

I would say keep her and see how she goes, Souffle was on limited days left, but now she is laying every day, no signs of her earlier issues and she is running and flying around the coup

So stick with it and keep posting

                  Update on Dozy Dora!

She is much better today. Eating and drinking normally...less running around frantic and sitting in corners. She's actually looking and behaving more like a chicken - even jerking her head about like chickens should do.

She hasn't been back out to the main run yet, but now that I'm confident it isn't contagious and instead most likely a head trauma or daze, I have brought her sister in with her (who had to be subjected to a bath in the kitchen sink first). They are interacting well, and my plan is to bring the other two siblings in tomorrow whilst I do their quarterly run clean anyway and then return all 4 to the flock tomorrow night. Just in case they decide to pick on Dora because she's alone.

Let's hope the plan works...and pray that Dora doesn't revert back to her odd behaviour when reintroduced!

(I'll upload picks of them later as well - they're very cute....but so small for 10wk old babies)

Hope she keeps getting stronger & has a fairly easy reintroduction to the others!

Awww Good news about Dozy Dora, I hope she keeps on improving.

Do chicks get so filthy they have to be bathed before they can join civilised folk in the kitchen?

I was going to pm you yesterday to say how much I enjoyed your blog but I couldn't remember how to do it, so "I love your blog".

Normally I don't feel the need to bathe my chickens...but I have one white araucana and for some reason she's completely incapable of staying clean. So, I decided to give her a wee wash whilst I had her inside! She looks lovely now...and very much enjoyed her blow dry!

I haven't updated our blog in AGES....it really is terrible, because I thoroughly enjoy doing it. I'll update it soon...promise. Thanks!!

Dora was camping out again tonight when I went to lock them up. Brought her in and she's bleeding again. Poor wee scone...she's perfect apart from being really scared of the others. I'm thinking it's the boys that are freaking her out.

Any further suggestions? Do we think she'll be fine when the boys go??

Still eating and drinking wonderfully...and still chirpy!

Have you tried ant-peck spray and gentian violet? Poor little Dora. My 10 week old Wellies are nearly as big as the ex-batts. The 3 boys tend to stick together and don't interact with the one girl much as they are too busy sparring. They still all pefer to sleep together in the broody coop away from the big girls though.
