  • So ....now I feel guilty!

    Guilt....tis an awful thing

OK- so we had unexpected visitors last night- who stayed 4 hrs! ( nice peeps though!)
BUT- I'd locked the chooks out of their coop cos Alice is getting broody.
Totally forgot about locking them away for the night until hubby asked at 9.30

They were all lined up on the wall- and he had to physically lift them and put them in the coop..but they kept running out to get back to the others left outside.

...and so ...(it gets worse folks)
He did a final headcount of 15 and locked them away all snug and warm and safe for the night.

This morning I found young Lily ( POL) jammed into a gap in the wall- looking very sorry for herself and cold

I'd alredy been keeping my eye on her as she's been very quiet and a bit hunched for the past couple of days ( ? first egg) ...but poor lass- out all night on her own and cold.OOOOooopppss.

So - quick way to warm her up - and the rest...a quick chase around the field...she's eating and drinking again- and happily surrounded by the flock.

See....now you know why I'm feeling guilty...esp as she's only about 17 weeks!

Sorry Lily...mommy will try harder x

Poor Lily and poor you! Like you can see though, she's fine and none the worse for the all-night party even though she was the only one there. Think you'd better tell you OH to learn how to count though
My girls found their way into my heart and now they nest there

          Ah poor little thing.

TLC and treats sounds the right way to go.

Before I had the automatic pop-hole opener, I forgot to shut my Laydees in once or twice - I felt soooo bad when I went to let them out in the morning and they were standing at the fence looking at me. They weren't bothered in the least, and I got more eggs that day coz they'd been up earlier!

I haven't been shutting the pop hole all summer. The chooks get up much earlier than I can manage lately. The 9 week olds haven't even got a pop hole to their coop. Another job for poor OH I think. They could of course go in with the laydees but choose not to. I don't think the nights are that cold yet are they? Or is it my age that makes me throw the covers off the bed at about 1am.

Just looked at your profile, but your age isn't stated - if it's any help I've been throwing the duvet off all summer and still am now it's cooler!

Went to let mine out on Monday and was greeted by a row of little faces at the gate.
Then I remembered that we'd got in late and I thought I'd go after tea, which was when my OH reminded me to watch 'Waking the Dead' and I completely forgot
Was too embaressed to admit until I realised I'm not the only one

I've just ordered a 13.5 tog feather and down duvet. Have been using 9.5 tog since April, wearing jimjams and occasionally socks, and still pull the duvet over my head to get warm.

Whispers 58. I only use a 4.5 tog duvet all summer and still not put winter one on yet. Even when I do it will only be 10.5. Could never use 13.5.
