  • Goodbye to you my trusted friends...

Well its 2 of my light sussex babies last day on Smoggy island, I let them all out early this morning and a little bit of spoiling them today wont go amiss and will help heal the guilt....

I've still got to hear a crow from these 2 but have been convinced that they are cocks....

So enjoy your last day little fellas..

    Gosh- I'm useless at telling.
I think each breed seems to develop it's fleshy bits at a different rate.
Can I see spurs- or are those the back toes????
I have one I'm not sure about- it's a real sweetie and sleeps next to the No 1 cockerel- but it's much bigger boned than the other lads but has similar fleshy bits.
I think that one can wait a while before deciding about the pot.
It'd be such a waste culling one- and then finding tiny eggs inside when it comes to drawing them!

    when in doubt.......

I was tempted to sit it out, but while theyre off laying and moulting as well, think its best i try to get a settled group for when they start to lay... so tomorrow these two are back to market..

Who knows what i'll return with though ..lol

I have 3 cockerels but they are only 9 weeks old and I'm hoping they won't start to crow for some time. They will have to go as soon as they do. I don't think I have a chance of selling them at market. I'm still struggling to find someone to have one for free! They live in my back garden and even if they have to be culled I couldn't eat one.

Well they've had a lovely day, ive been working in the garden all day so they have been pecking around my feet for most of it. All tucked up now, early up and give them breakfast before taking them to market..

That will knock me down to 9, so have the option of getting up to 6 more - but will see whats there....

I'm glad im not putting them in the pot, would feel harsh - at least they get another chance at market....
