    Me again!
I now have my chickens on the allotment which has no electric and I can only get up after work. It is getting darker and darker at night and I know some of you guys are a bit handy with the old DIY. So here is my random question......Can a light be wired upto a car battery and does anyone know how.

Sorry for the randomness just know it is going to get darker

short answer is yes. and you can even get solar cells to recharge the battery

    Longer answer:

Get one of those mechanics lamps that they use to work on cars with or an old car headlamp unit with lamp inside. Wire this up to the battery with a switch.

Now 2 options, either have 2 batteries and keep one at home on charge and swap as needed or be flash and splash out on some solar cells to recharge

I have a shed light that works off solar but only gives off very little light. Also with solar there is the problem of less sun in the winter to charge the batteries up. How about a small generator to give the battery a boost now and again.

agreed frias, hence the lights that I mentioned, they're brighter. The solar cells (depending on the type) might or might not charge sufficiently. There's also the question of the amount of time that the light would be on for as this affects the amount of time to charge. I like your idea about a small backup genny to charge the battery. I like backup plans and solutions!

You could also get one of those camping torches (about £5) that you wear on a band around your head so you can keep your hands free.

found one. Is it as simple as positive to positive and negative to negative with regards to the hook up to the battery

I use my headlamp in the garden when I'm on slug and snail safari and to read in bed until I get replacement bulb for my reading light.
