  • Hens eating live frogs?

One of my girls has just caught and eaten a small live frog. Made my stomach turn. Is this normal? It was about 2/3" big.

My lot chased one and one ate it. I could see the little legs sticking out of her beak. I have previously shooed them off and rescued frogs but this one wouldn't have recovered - too pecked and too far down!

They also catch and eat mice so be very careful about putting down mice bait!

Mice, god didn't think they'd eat them! Wouldn't have been so bad if the frog was dead, but it was wriggling around uuuuggggh! That's nature I suppose. Wait 'til next Spring when all the baby frogs appear out of the pond.

I was as horrified as you MrsC. I had no idea that these cute little hens could be so brutal. My frog population has definitely diminished since the hens moved in.

                        Poor lil froggy

My girls had best not scoff the frogs wot scoff the slugs wot scoff the hostas

I shall sulk. I thought chooks meant cuddles + eggs eventually, slug control gradually and manure immediately (well they're not tight in providing the last)
