After sorting my hens a freind at the allotment commented "Is that one of your brown hens running free on your plot"? Quick as a flash and in unison we each said "It is now" (Jokingly......I may add!)
After chasing it for a while I returned to my chooks and tried to get them to stand still long enough to get a head count. Nope..........it aint mine says I!
With the fox taking loads of hens round about lately, I thought I had better try and catch it for its own safety.
After 20 minutes chasing it I eventually managed to corner it and threw my coat over it.
By this time it was starting to get dark so I put it in with my LS and Minorcas until I decided what to do with it.
Poor thing was getting attacked by all three of them so plan B was called for.
I made ready the broody hut with straw water and food and after recueing it a second time billeted in there for tonight. At least it will be safe. I'll put the feelers out at the allotments tomorrow but I know that if I ask anyone "Have you lost a chook?" they will all shout YES in unison.
A good description of it will do................and not just a brown hen!
I am slightly worried that its original owner may think I'm trying to steal it!
