went out today and bought 5 chicks to fatten for meat, have them n the garage under a heat lamp in a home built brooder, so fingers crossed that they thrive, theres prob no reason to worry but its unknown territory so am a bit nervous, but excited,woo hoo !!!!!!!

Way to go Seamus.
If you have to name them I suggest names along the lines of Kiev, Coq Au Vin, Massala, Stir Fry etc. (Not an original thought, there is a Grape who has used some of those names but it will focus you on their ultimate purpose
)

A difficult decision- I know- but we hatch our own eggs and have so far culled 3 lads- and 3 more to go...the meat is absolutely delish!

We took this approach, not just with chickens but pigs and goats. The ones destined for eating had foodie names (Kid Curry, Pork Chop, CD,= Christmas Dinner, that was the first turkey). It does indeed keep your mind on the purpose. I found it worked best if the 'dinner' beasts were not the only ones of their kind.......
