Huh, there isn't a horse in the world that could dump those Dominican beach jockeys. Those blokes are born with the ability to stick like glue to a hoss's back when on land and to swim underwater without coming up for air for minutes at a time when off it

We have an update, the 2 remaining Favs have come from standing still with their heads tucked in to actively searching for food The Silkies are our main layers at the moment, totally unaffected by the whole affair. Our white Pekin hen has started to show some worrying signs, her comb has gone pale and she spends alot of time in her box, maybe broody?. The Leghorn hen looks totally fine, she's no longer got a limp. Alot of them look shabby because of feather loss but are recovering very well.

We are showing our first bird on Sunday at a poultry show. A Salmon Fav cock who doesn't seam to be missing any feathers. We're excited about going as well as quite apprehensive that our cockerel isn't good enough.

Thanks for the update. It's good to know the chooks are recovering. The Pekin's behaviour doesn't sound as if it is related to the attack. Has she been laying or is she coming into lay?

Think positive about your cockerel. He's probably perfect but you'll have to get your showing act together. Good luck and please let us know how well you do

Good grief - I think a siberian huskie is much more dangerous than a fox!(think WOLF!) the owners ought to be ashamed - it could maim or kill a child next time. Regardless of compensation offers they need reporting to police - you would never forgive yourself if it kills a child next time.

No I don't think a Husky would kill a baby, the dog in question showed no aggression towards me at all.

Well- I'm sure you made it as secure as you thought would be needed originally- these darned foxes keep us on our toes don't they?

Huskies aren't any more dangerous to children, people or pets than any other dog Petal. Just stronger and therefore able to gnaw through the fence protecting StevenSals chickens.

May i suggest that if you find this dog running loose again, that you coax it into your car and take it to the nearest police station , do this every time you find it running loose. Once its owners have had to pay the kennel release fees a few times ( about 60 quid) , they will soon think twice about letting it run loose unsupervised. I would also give the local dog warden a call and inform them of what has happened, this might become a regular problem and you might need their support in the future .

I'm taking my OH's Dorking cockeral and a hen to a show for the first time on Sunday! (I have shown ducks a couple of times but they mostly wash themselves!) our chicken mentor is a poultry judge - not at this show! so we do get some inside tips.....

But its very exciting! good luck!

I'm told its very early in the calendar for showing with everybody moulting like mad....

Oh my goodness I missed this before! I'm so sorry! My landlord shot one (sorry for the fox sympathisers) last week not far from home but I have been very lucky so far...

My point being it is not the same as a fox. A fox can be forgiven- its a wild animal but people ought to keep their dogs under close control, I am certain you agree?

Yes I do. The dog who sired my two dogs is on 'death row' for killing two cats and a guinea pig and is now considered to be a 'dangerous dog' and out of control.

He's actually a lovely dog but is indulging dog/prey instincts because he has never been checked. The fool is his owner who despite a couple of serious warnings has nevertheless refused to keep the dog on a lead or secure him in the home (dog is able to let himself out).

The fool has admitted his fault and is attempting to get the dog reprieved because of his own failings and will agree that the dog may be castrated, rehomed and retrained.

The dog has been brought up with four little girls from babies and is an ideal family pet. He just needed boundaries.

It is too late for the pets the dog has killed and I fear it may now be too late for the dog.
