Actually, they are likely to feather up more quickly if not wearing anything. Each year we have our fair share of baldies, but they soon re-grow. They find a sheltered spot if they're a bit chilly, and seem to cope ok.

I certainly wouldn't use one at night, I think it would be very easy for the hens to get over-heated. I'm also aware that they could wriggle out and get claws caught etc. Ok if you are home all day to keep an eye but if you're out at work then - all I'm saying is it would concern me. Moulting is a natural process. Hens that have come out of a heated battery farm building are maybe different but most chickens that are living an outdoor life would cope with it. Their body temp is a fair bit higher than ours.
I would think you could cut up and use a baby vest with a bit of careful jiggling if you aren't a knitter.

There's a link on one of the posts (I think it's to one of the re-homers sites) that gives instructions for making fabric "jumpers". I seem to remember that it's a bit like a bib put on backwards with velcro fastenings. My hens all decided to moult last December (silly s*ds) and coped remarkably well during the cold wet windy weather, they still laid eggs too!
My girls found their way into my heart and now they nest there

Fleece patterns and knitting patterns. I haven't read through to see if they sell any.

          Help us make hen jumpers!

            How bald is bald?
One of mine is VERY lacking in feathers --- is this normal?
Do all hens moult? Every year?

Once they're over a year old, yes, they moult every year. Some lose nearly all their feathers at once so they look like plucked oven-readies, others do it a bit more slowly so the new feathers hide the bald bits. They'll be fine, honestly, it's not that cold yet

I could make little Tiara's for the pullets and a Tuxedo for the cockerels so they can get married in style

Bet it's already been done over the pond!!!

I'll do the eco-friendly washable Burberry nappies with compostable liners to enable Chooks and Chicks to become housepets

Oops Myrtle's telling me to get a shift on with her treat and bedtime story. BRB

                          lol

Chicken jumpers, not really required. Most hens are moulting currently and like Mo said some lose all their feathers in one go, they keep warm at night by huddling up and duringthe day the temperature is still rising nicely. If she starts to suffer tehn readdress the situation.

Mo - LMAO - tiaras and tuxedos - I can just see basil now!!!
