  • ex batts advice

half of my chickens where wiped out today by the not so fantastic Mr fox. I raised these from chicks and a lot of time and effort goes into them and it's something I don't feel like doing again right now. I also don't want to pay inflated prices for new birds so the alternative is ex batts. I have some experiance with these and I have a huge allotment for them to explore(complete with new electric fence) I was just wondering if anyone knew where I could get some from in the south yorkshire/sheffield area

I'm so sorry to hear that. Blerdy foxes

I hope your other chickens aren't hurt and traumatised.

Sorry I can't help re ex-batts in your neck of the woods.

So sorry to hear this Wall, it's an awful thing to have to go through ....................... and all the clearing up after!!!

Have you had a look at the BHWT site for the next rescue close (ish) to you? There's also this ad in Poultry Ads for Yorkshire layer hens for sale For Sale - Poultry For Sale With Free Advertising on Poultry Ads UK, otherwise perhaps place an ad on there yourself (it's free). Hope you get sorted xxx

Oh, that's terrible - I do hope they come back if they're still able!

I had my first 'batch' from the BHWT - I've had them a year now and egg production has dropped sharply, so I can't keep up with orders at the moment. I'll be considering some more POL when I have the space.

                That's sad - really sorry.
Maybe give yourself time to consider and regroup over the winter.

Really sorry to hear that. Ex-batts are lovely but they don't always lay for long. I've got 6 and 2 don't lay at all but getting 3 or 4 eggs a day from the other 4.

They are really worth it. It's amazing how soon after rescue they learn to scratch around and dustbath etc. My girls are with me for the rest of their lives laying or not.
