...time to abandon Plan A, which was to re-site the two hen runs, put down paving for a hard floor and cover with clear plastic to keep the worst of the rain out.
OK, so Plan B, for those whom life overtakes at times is this - put a gazebo up in the run that they are in. This might prove a tad tricky but I'm going to give it a go!!!

Is this just to winter proof the runs a wee bit for the heavy rainfall during winter?

The gazebo idea should work, I had an old one in the run last year. I replaced the holey cover with black plastic (a shower curtain would have done just as well) and this gave somewhere to keep the food dry and a sheltering place for the chooks - not that they ever used it!!! They all still stood out in the rain saying "I'm getting wet here, are you getting wet? Is it wet over there?" etc

I put a Gazebo up for my 'Laydees' and they ate under it, and sheltered some of the time. But when there was 4 inches of snow everywhere, they spent the days out in the open playing in it!

Whenever I picked one of them up to check them, I found they were really warm! I don't worry about them so much now

Yay! Glad I'm not the only one to think of a gazebo, feel a bit less idiotic now! I like the idea of using a shower curtain too, there's a small area for the batts and if I could rig a shower curtain up somehow it would be great Thanks guys!
