  • Eye infection

One of our Silkie chooks has a rather bad eye infection. It is half closed, bulging and weeping We knew she had lost her sight when she couldn't find bits of bread, even when the cockerel directed her. I have quarantined her in a box in the shed. What should I use to treat her eye

Try bathing it with salt water first - the salt is antiseptic - but I'd take her to the vet or get some drops/ointment from the vet if they'll let you have some without seeing her. She could have an injury which needs proper treatment

Salt water. See how she goes. It might clear up on its own if you keep it free from gunk. If not then see what the vet says.

Aye (pardon the pun) that's what I'd do...salt water cleanse morning and night. I'd check for foreign body when you clean it, just in case she's got something in it causing irritation. Failing that I'd give her 3 days with salt water wash and if still no improvement by then I'd go for some antibiotic drops.
I love to talk about nothing. It's the only thing I know anything about!!

Ditto everyone elses comments, an eye bath with warm saline water for a few days to see if she improves.
