Can anyone identify the breed please

Can anyone identify the breed of this chicken please, it is about 14 weeks old and came with a mixed beg of marans. There are three others of the same type, none have headgear, all have bright yellow legs and feet. They are probably a cross of something.

Hello nigel- and welcome to the Vine!

I see that is your first post since joining- good to finally 'meet ' you!!

Where abouts are you? Are you in the UK??- it would make a difference as to what breeds are possible crosses.

My thoughts are that the white feathers will eventually dissapear as the rich reds/chestnut comes through. That happened with a couple of my chooks which were cross breeds, but mine are French hens.

Are you able to contact the person who sold them to you- they may at least be able to shortlist a few possibles.
The other thought is that could be typical for one particular colouring of Marans

The colouring is often reffered to as Jubilee or Mille fleur.

When I first saw it the bird that sprang to mind was a jubilee orpington, due to its colouration, tail and fluffy "knickers" but its stance and body shape are wrong for an orpington but of course if its a cross its stance and body shape could come from that I have no idea what it is crossed with however, yellow legs, stance etc is indicative of game bird of some sort, maybe an aseel.

If you manage to get chance to ask the person who bred them then let us know!!

Thanks for that, I don't think the breeder knew what they were, we wanted the 8 marans and just took the rest as well as a job lot.

I have just been looking on a couple of websites, I think they may be Spangled Russian Orloffs, though these appear to be rare so I am not sure how we managed to get get 4 of them. Two look like pullets and two like cockrels. the cockrels don't appear to have headgear.

I am in East Riding of Yorkshire just at the base of the Wolds, had chickens fopr 4 years now, but have moved from a garden pen to a 5 acre field and electric mesh fenced compound. Have a pen of Rhode Island Reds and a pen of Marand and mixed.

Your bird has a speckled sussex look...but the leg colour is all wrong. Like you said though, it's a cross...so there is a chance the leg colouring could be wrong!

Think it'll turn out to be a 'looker' anyhow!

I would suggest if the breeder didn;t know what they were and they were chucked in as a job lot they are not going to be anything rare - probably orpington or sussex crosses of some sort.

I think they have an Orloff look about them but chances are its a Heinz variety. The colouring reminds me of our Salmon Favs, but they definetely arent favs
