  • Ducks raising from the shell

Not for the first time I had a hen sitting on duck eggs, they were due to hatch tomorrow, were chirping today and she walked.
So I helped them very gently out of their shells, we have 2 live rather lifeless, but breathing. Wrapped in cotton wool in a container on the rayburn.
Any tips would be most welcome.
I have kept ducks for over 30 years nd never had a problem.

    Hi there!
Sorry- I've no experience ( as yet) of what to do in that situation.
There are a few of us on here who seem to have all the problems with our chooks!!!

I hope to learn from your experience

Please document how things go and what you would do differently next time, as even from the failures,(fingers crossed not) we learn more and the info could help someone else out.

All the best and sorry not much help, I agree with helping them out as I lost a few chicks by letting nature have it's wicked way. Perhaps a reptile heat mat as they can lay on it without hurting them?

Never test the depth of the water with both feet

The only reason people get lost in thought is because it's unfamiliar territory....

Always remember you're unique, just like everyone else.

        Ducklings take over the kitchen

They were still pretty doppy last night so we got out an old heating pad from the days when I made beer, had to put a bread board on top as their plastic container got a bit warm, got up a couple of times to give them food.
This morning they are as bright as buttons, running round the kitchen chirping away my 3 daxies firmly shut up are not approving. Have now got them in a large box, photographs rather blurry, have a wee bit of video.
        Thanks for interest
