  • Mr Fox got one of my chooks

my 2 year old opened the back of the coop and i never noticed when i shut them up for the night. luckily the fox seemed to be satisfied with killing just one of them. the fox killed the one that rarley laid any eggs and was the only chook that the kids didn't really bond with.

extra cheks when they are being put to bed from now on

Are you sure it was a fox? foxes usually kill them all and maybe only take one. I'm so sorry to hear that one of yours has become a victim
My girls found their way into my heart and now they nest there

yep, my wife Janice spotted the fox eating the poor thing, was quite a bit away from the coop as well , i was pleasantly surprised to see the rest still alive.

possibly a young cub then, only recently left the den and starting to fend for itself. when they pair up they usually go on a killing spree.

It is a shame that you lost any, lucky it was only the one, and at least you seem settled in the knowledge that it was almost natures own way of dealing with the poor layer etc.

just keep a very close eye out from now on, as now it has found a source of food it will come back looking for more ways to eat.
