I hatched a silkie cockeral a few months ago end of march time. When he got a bit older I put him in with two light sussex bantams and a black wynadotte. They kicked the hell out of him on a regular basis he was a right poorly treated fella. The last few mornings he has been getting his revenge he has been pecking the backs of their necks and generally doing what he was hatched to do. Good for you fella

They go a bit mad when they first get the hang of things . Just watch out for your ladies - one may get a bit stressed with all the sudden attention, and may need a wee bit of tlc. It calms down after a fashion but I have found the odd girlie looking a bit under during the cockerels first randy period!!

our cockerel "Goliath" that adopted us from over the fields has a theory -
Rule Number 1 - if it moves, hump it
Rule Number 2 - if it doesnt move, hump it until it does move, then apply rule number one
I am so looking forward to seeing his progeny in the sring as i quite fancy a backyard mongrel, based on light sussex, warren, ex-batt cross with a 27" tall monster! The layers could be good with that genetic makeup and the cockerels would be a bloody good size!
