  • what happened ????

i posted a couple of weeks ago after getting 5 table birds to fatten, they were 2 days old at the time, have given them fresh water 2 or 3 times daily, constant supply of food, have checked them 3 or 4 times a day under a heat lamp, fresh bedding every evening, no signs of ill health,no experience but have been very vigiliant, went in this evening and the biggest bird was flat on his back, both legs in the air, stone cold dead, what happened??, wat did i do wrong ??

I have no idea, but if he is an isolated case, chances are it was a problem with him rather than your management. If others die however, you need to review particularly the temperature, and then the possibility of disease.

From what you have said- you've done your very best for them!
I too would suspect it was a problem with that particular chick.
Are you able to contact the breeder - they a may have had a similar problem..you never know- you may even be given a replacement.

Always sad to see a dead chick/chook...but don't jump to the conclusion it was your fault though

all the best with the others!

We had a pekin that died too - sudden chick death syndrome the book says - nothing you can do and not contagious, must of been something wrong with it.

I'm sorry about your chick Seamus

Isn't it lovely how the people on this forum assume responsibility and blame themselves when their chickens ail?
