  • We turned the electric fence on.

Oh my god what a fuss. Had to turn it off again as I'm sure the noise could be heard a mile away.

won't the raptors get out now?

We'll need to send a team to the electric substation to reset the breakers....

Two of mine put their heads through the netting - we weren't sure if it was working or not............................................................. the girls found out! They haven't tried it again!

Was the fence clicking???...it means that there's something touching the metal parts- you need to check it over carefully!

(If it is clicking , it means that some of the power isn't getting through so the shock would be less- and may not deter a fox)

          What sort of noise

Not, hopefully, the sound of chickens roasting?

We sorted the clicking before letting the chickens out. It was when one of them stuck her head through! She yelled the place down which sent the others flying in all directions and then they ALL touched it and the bock bock bocking went on and on for ages. (I'm sure Maureen will know what they were saying.) My neighbour came to see what all the noise was about. I wish there was a way of turning the power down until they get used to it. I've spent all this money to keep them safe they think I'm trying to kill them.
My OH did touch it by mistake this morning too but he wasn't having a pee!

Oh dear, I know I shouldn't larff but..

Maybe everyone will give you eggs tomorrow in case you torture them again.

If OH lays an egg, take a photo before you call an ambulance

We've since borrowed a posh fence tester (the one that came with it wasn't registering) and established that at least 4000 volts is going through all along it! No wonder they squawked!

No wonder they jumped. Is it to keep the foxes out ? I was thinking of trying one in my garden. My fence is around five feet high but i am worried that if a fox is hungry it will find a way !

jayjay, 5' is easy peasy for a fox to get over. My fences are over 6' and the fox still got in!!!
My girls found their way into my heart and now they nest there

My fences are 6' and I tend to think if a cat can get over then a fox will too. My lot have a large enclosed run but since their numbers have gone up they need more space and want to spend more time in the garden. With the weather getting colder I don't, so needed the electric fence to be sure they are OK when I'm not out there. We will have to persevere to get them used to it.

                          Frias,

Now that they've all had a shock from the fence they'll surely steer clear of it?

Beyond deterring the fox, electric fencing is to corall the chooks no?

                            JayJay,

I watched a fox spring onto a brick wall approx 7'6" to 8' high from a sitting position on the pavement.

I think the idea of the electric fence is that it's a bit wobbly- and no fixed height for it to try to jump over.
Also they are are there is an electric current- which puts them off???
