  • hatching eggs from e bay

when buying eggs off ebay, sometimes you have a good experience, sometimes all are infertile. There is nowhere one can record this honestly on e bay as the feedback system restricts you to commenting on packaging and punctuality of posting. Why don't we comment on our experiences here?
for example: I have had excellent hatch rate from dragon poultry(mixed box of pure breeds) yet 12 completely infertile, filthy eggs from is poultry.

You have up to 60 days to leave whatever feedback you consider appropriate and rate the seller's performance using the 'stars' (1-4 being dreadful according to eBay Towers and 5 being ok to splendid).

I know that some egg sellers claim they 'cannot be held responsible for the hatch rate due to RM playing footie with the eggs etc.' but you don't have to abide by that.

There is also an option to leave a follow up comment to any feedback you leave, so you could comment on service and condition and then leave a comment re the hatch rate 21 days later.

most sellers specify that you can only comment on packaging not fertility rate? I poo pooed this once and got a really horrid email from the seller! Scared!

You! Scared of an itsy bitsy seller when you're wrangling a cockerel with attitude? I don't believe you

Sellers may request you refrain from commenting on the fertility rate but they can't insist. If one seller packs extremely carefully and you get a reasonable hatch rate but another chucks the eggs into a paper bag and sticks a stamp on and the omelette doesn't hatch why shouldn't you comment?

Sellers frequently state they are not responsible for items lost or damaged in transit and business sellers often state they will not accept returns for BINs ~ guess what? They will if the buyer paid via PayPal

I leave feedback based on posting, but then use the follow-up to add a comment on the rest.
BUT to be very fair I make sure I candle the eggs twice and when the hatch is finished break any unhatched eggs to check.
My last hatch 12 RIR, 5 hatched, but only two candled infertile, and when broken 4 of the other 5 were almost full term chicks. Now that has to be down to other factors that are nothing to do with the seller.
12 cochin, 6 hatched, 1 infertile 1 started 3 full term just didnt hatch, again I'm happy with that
6 red pyle dutch, 0 hatch, 4 infertile, 2 barely started. Would not buy here again as obviously either the breeder didnt test fertility properly or the eggs just dont travel well.
But I still wouldnt leave bad feedback until Ive discussed politely with the seller, after all we all go through a learning curve and they may be perfectly happy to replace candled infertile eggs.

PS..if you ask for RM Special delivery (around £6.99) the eggs are not stuffed in the main post for the posties to play footie with. If the seller isnt willing to do that (and after all you're paying) find another!

You can't leave neg feedback unless you've spoken with the seller already

this thread, to be honest wasn't about feedback system (I find myself being polite and blaming myself on that anyway - Why? is it an english thing?!!!) it was more about our experiences - who to buy from and who is taking the mick!!?
