My Cockeral, advice please!

Despite advertising my Polish Bantam Cockeral for 'free' I have no takers, got to get rid of him soon. He's not cock-a-do-doodle-doing but it won't be long, he gets quite noisy. I'm veggie and wouldn't eat him and don't think Mr C would be up to the job of putting him in the oven so to speak, we have discussed this. At a lost. Shame because he's a lovely looking boy and I don't want the neighbours complaining when he does start getting too noisy. Any advice please, I bought 3 chicks on the spur of the moment thingy whilst at the lottie, 1 died and the other 2 survived, along with Trevor, I know I'm sad, but that's his name

We are pretty much up to full capacity here at the moment. We have already taken in loads of birds this year. Can i suggest that you might look into what auctions are near to you to see if you could take him there?

If you were nearer I could try and take him, but finding space at the moment is a nightmare. Hope you find some home for him soon. If you really are stuck and no takers at the auction, drop me a message and i will see if i can find someone that might have room nearer to you.

Have you thought of advertising him on the poultry keeper forum? they have a for sale section on there and you might find him a home on there??

If you really can't find a home for him, have you thought of driving round a few farms in your area-(who have free ranging chooks) and offer him to them as 'new blood' for their gals for breeding purposes?..as a gift?
or maybe even a private horse stables to free range in their fields.
Take some piccies of him so they can see what a lovely lad he is.

How about getting your neighbours onside. Can you pick him up and show him? If they take a liking to him then they may not mind. Not everyone objects He may not even be that loud - some are, some not. Why don't you keep him and see how it goes? Just get talking.....

It might just work MrsC I warned my neighbours when I first got Basil that he'd be starting to crow before too long and asked them to let me know if he became a problem. Now that he's gone, they're all missing "the lovely sounds he made" I've told them all not to worry, there's some of his sons growing up

Since sacrificing our noisiest boy to the roasting tin we've had so many peeps tell us how they miss him!
Definately worth a try to get your neighbours opinion before doing anything drastic...isn't it the same as always...the ones with a complaint are the ones we hear...for each of those ones there's probably plenty more that really don't mind!Hope your neighbours are of the variety that don't!

Bepham mentioned a while back that she could only hear her cockerel if she had her kitchen door open and doubted that her neighbours "with their posh double glazing" could hear him at all.

The daddy of my 3 fine girls resides in street of terraced and semi-detached houses and I don't think he's the only strutting buckeroo there either.

So, maybe a good idea to check out the neighbours and possibly give yourself another few months before windows are open and boyo is cockadoodledooing at 3am

I am definitely going to speak to the neighbours. Might be a problem with one (next door) maybe not though. One of my girls escaped into a neighbours garden a few weeks back and I went to collect her with a few free eggs of course. They told me they would sit in the back garden waiting to hear if they could hear the girls, they love the noise they make when announcing the arrival of a new egg!

Hope you can keep your cockerel MrsC. I have 3 and although not crowing yet, keeping them is not an option. Although both my immediate next door neighbours would be OK with one cock, my next door but one who's garden runs along the bottom of mine would object. He was concerned when we got the hens that we wouldn't have cocks and as he owns a restaurant and has late night I do understand his concern.
