My only Light Sussex has died. I found her lying under the the roosting bar.
It looks like she's fallen off the roost whilst asleep and broken her neck.
Checked her over and couldn't find any other explanation!
Roosting bar is about 2 foot six high.
This is worrying because my cockerels are roosting outside at 4 foot high and also my other brown hens use two roosting bars, one at 4 foot and one at 2 foot.
I was late to allotment this evening so they were all inside. The only way I thought there nmay be something up is that she hadn't layed an egg in the external nesting box. When I looked inside she was dead on the floor.
Its such a shame as she was only in with the two Minorca's to keep them company for the winter.
She was my last hen that I'd hatched myself, all others apart from the cockerels have been bought in.
Ah well, I may have to buy a few ex-bats now to keep the other two company for the winter!
