when hens are trying to lay eggs they take in a certain mount of feed and its converted to eggs. when they are wet and cold, they burn most of their food just trying to keep warm, so Sue, you are right, chooks dont like being cold and wet.

Wet is the worst thing. it saps their insulation and chills them right to the bone. I have been out this afternoon, putting tarpaulins over the runs to keep the worst of the rain off, and strawing up all the pens. Gone through three bales of straw so far and still need more!
