  • how much feed

right the chooks are going to thier new home in the allotment in the morn they are coming on a treat since i got them 10 days ago been feeding them mixed corn with poultry spice added and the odd handfull of layers pellets thier combs are starting to get a bit of colour to them and they aren,t as scared of me in fact they,ll eat out of the food carton while i,m holding it.
so enough of the waffle and down to the question how much food should i be giving them per day [10 ex battery yearling birds ]

You should be giving them layers pellets ad lib with just a handful of corn as a treat late in the day. That'll fill them up and keep them warm overnight.
Corn is a treat - like us living on chocolate - and they don't get the correct balanced nutrition they need. Layers pellets give the correct balance for laying hens
Ex-batts need some extra calcium and cod liver oil occasionally too as well as the Poultry spice.

I agree with Sue. I have a large hopper which I keep topped up with layers pellets and the girls have as much as they want. Corn is a just before bedtime treat. I give 2 handfuls between 10.

I second that! I now realise i was feeding way too much corn (equal ratio with layers) but when i changed to ad lib layers with corn just before bedtime the girls egg production DOUBLED!

I'm sure it cant just be coincidence!
