Greens for me girls

Just reading through some of the posts and was wondering how often i should be giving me girls greens, only asking because i thought greens were a bit of a treat, last time i hung up some spring greens my 4 girls demolished them by the end of the day and i'm worried they will fill up on greens and not eat their proper food.
As some of my know i'm new to all this so just want the best for me girls.

Greens are meant to make eggs taste better but as long as the girls are eating enough layers that's the important thing. If I throw my laydees greens it's in the afternoon (so they get adequate layers first) only and even then not everyday although regularly as it gives them something interesting to do. Mine get the chance to dig through new straw beds in the stables when I muck out in the afternoon and mixed corn at bedtime as well.

I hung a couple of cabbages in the runs for the girls (and boys!) on Tuesday, and although the chooks do go mad at them, they're just a little bit too high for them to gorge themselves on, they have to jump up to get a bite so there's still a good half of each left Exercise, boredom relief and healthy food all in one go (not that mine ever seem bored!)

Yep, layers first and then greens and as Maureen says - if they are hung up the greedy chooks cannot stuff themselves silly.

I gave mine greens - they went mouldy!

S'pose they must get enough grass - fussy b*ggers!

Now, the Geese on the other hand - will eat anything, apart from carrots!

LOL, I did tell them, but as they only get the trimmings I guess they were less than impressed! I luuuurve Carrots

I've hung the outer leaves and stalks of cauliflowers and cabbages up for mine - they love them.

I hung an apple up for them this morning and they haven't touched it. Sometimes they aren't very adventurous and have to be coaxed to try something new. The light bulb moment when they realised Sultanas are fab was glorious (apart from almost losing my fingers)

Mine only eat the apples that have started to go brown or where the wasps have started them first!

They only get greens every second day as it tends to give them diarrhea!

Problem i have is i'm at work all day so only have the morning to clean out the coop and give them their food and water,any extras they get has go in then as well, and by the time i get in at night the little darlings have put themselves to bed. Oh well it saturday tomorrow so i will give them their geen treat in the afternoon.

My husband used to be a chef so everything for the chooks gets speedily chopped up into very small precise pieces. He says they like it better done that way and they obviously do as nothing gets left. Funny thing is, he insists the chickens are mine and nothing to do with him.

Well my Wellies were one day old and everything I gave to their mum she promptly gave to them. Gave me a shock at first but I figured mum knew best and they have never been ill or off colour. I just make sure I never give too much of any one food, except their pellets of course.

Same problem here Phataff, I miss seeing them when I get in from work. I do give them a pot mixed bits of whatever's left or some green stuff just before I leave and they seem to be doing OK on it. They have the rest of the day to eat and with this horrible weather they seem to be filling up well.
