Im sure I've seen it on a list of stuff you can give chooks. I give it to mine funnily enough Suechooks usualy when its been whoopsed at asda, we can never get through a big bag fast enough without their help . Theres a lot of asda's finest whoopses that goes through my fridge, or off to the chooks.

Phattaff I have the same problem as you, in the morning I hurl in the feeders and drinkers I've filled the night before, then scoot off to work. So they have to have the full days rations at one go cos they're tucked up asleep when I get home. On days off though they get extra fuss to make up, but I still feed AM only cos its what they're used to. Although they might get a treat at bedtime they are'nt all that bothered.

On one of the links I read, it said that apple pips were poisonous to them??

Mine eat an apple within about 2 minutes flat, core skin and all

Mine get all their layers pellets in a feeder, fill it every couple of days and they can take as much or as little as they want, plus alittle on the floor for omlet as she gets a bit bullied since her Op

it also said that chard should be given as small quantities, so I'm not sure they knew what they were talking about, but it was from one of the links

My girls demolish every trace of an apple now they know what it is, too.

They were very taken with their brunch of scrambled egg, dried milk, poultry spice and soft cherry toms yesterday

Eco-chic be careful giving milk as hens are intolerant of lactose so could get the skwitters if you give it. Yoghurt is ok as the lactose is changed in the culture.
Apparently there is cyanide in apple pips which is why they're on a list of dangerous foods but I guess they'd have to eat an awful lot!

we make our own yogurt with one of those easiYo, its quite cost effective and lasts for ages too.

The good think is that its from free range cows, and because of the process, i would imagine removes the lactose element okay???

In the tub they say it lasts for up to 2 weeks, if you buy a tub you have to use it within 2-3 days, so this is great. I make up a tub, I get two large portions for the curry I make and then the chucks get the rest over the period

Anyway the chucks go mad for it

Thanks Sue. It was 1/4tsp to the other ingredients. I didn't have any yoghurt else I'd have used that.

Tick, I think the use by date on yoghurt is largely unnecessary because of the live culture processing. I don't take any notice of it anymore.

I have one of those electric yoghurt makers so all I need is a spoonful of yoghurt and a litre of long life milk. I give it to the chooks every morning with their mash so a litre lasts about a week - good value at 57p for a litre of skimmed milk.
