  • QD Stores chook food

Does anyone use their pellets(Chickens Choice)?

Was £6.99 which is 50p cheaper and a LOT closer for me to get....Currently using Marraiges so am reluctant to change from a brand I know.

I'd check the labels carefully. You get what you pay for .....
I've started using Garvo and I am gobsmacked at how good my chooks are looking....and they are laying really really well.

I don't think the 'get what you pay for' saying is ALWAYS true! I use Farngate which has no GM stuff in it and my chooks love it!

At £4.95 for 20Kg, it has to be the cheapest in the country ...............unless someone else knows different that is?

snadge - at 4.95 you are onto a good deal. the RRP of farmgate is £8.95 per 20kg sack and at trade price to me i buy it in at £5.50!

whoever is buying that in must be buying it in huge bulk to get that price so be sure to check the date stamp to make sure its not near its end!

I use small holders, and at the moment you get apply for a £3 or £5 voucher from their website, so brings the cost right down.

Also check out if Allen & Page are going to be anywhere demostrating their products as they usually give out vouchers then.

I was told that A & P tend to have a key distributor in a region (usually someone whose beens stocking their stuff for years) and price can vary. In Suffolk Byrant & Sons in Pakenham do 20kg for £7.50 where most other places I have brought A & P from charge £9 +.
The 5kg bags are being sold for £4.50!!! in a number of local farmshops.

It may be worth phoning round to check prices...

I think we pay around £8.90 for small holders layers pellets and £12 for ex batts stuff, because they are on the allotment in fairly harsh conditions at the moment the rep has suggested going with ex batts pellets, as I have 3 coming
to give them a little more resistence to the weather, colds etc

A & P at Barnard Bros in Ipswich, Suffolk is £8 a bag for the mash I buy. I think pellets are the same price?

If you're on about the QD (Quality Dismay) Stores Ltd that line British high streets - I would tread carefully. As others have said, you get what you pay for. There is no reason why this couldn't be the left overs from big branded foods but on the other hand it could be the old stock past its sell by date and just re-packaged.

As we've seen - a lot of retailers are now coming up with cheap and often inferior products to try and make us chook keepers spend money with them.

I personally stick to my guns and only use products from the local small holding shop or farm shop. Don't let our farm shops disappear like our butchers and bakers because of discount shops or worse still - T**co!!!

                    Rant over.....

Thank you Matthew. Like I said, am reluctant to shift from Marraiges that I know and trust.
