The air rifle really is the ideal tool for the job.

If there's no rifle to hand the sh*t shovel works pretty well !

Drowning isn't exactly humane, though we never catch any alive Bobby the dalmation cross turns into the great white hunter at the first whiff of rat and has killed 7,(have had 2 drowned in the water bucket) (that was last winter) I didn't set him on them or anything but he's so quick! One flick a breif squeal up in the air and down dead! ick! He'll dig up moles to if he gets a chance...... only got one 'cos I stop him now I know thats what the diggings about took him best part of an hour to root it out, me being a dummy thought he was trying to hide a toy!

Good going Snadger. I think the air rifle has to be quicker than poison and therefore more humane. I've two Jack Russell crosses who'll stalk the rats for hours and discourage them from getting too comfy chez nous, although they've only brought one home to me to date. I will take shooting lessons and get an air rifle if Roland isn't sufficiently discouraged and decides to set up home though.

i have pictures of snadger in my mind now, hunkered down behind sand bags with a belt feeding machine gun on a tripod on a tin hat.

could even be in a slight dug out - "platoon" style. when you calling for the napalm strike snadge?

snadge - are you going to hoist up the gibbet, with your kills displayed high and wide to strike fear into the hearts of the rats that might be waiting? it is a technique used by old game keepers - perhaps one that might work, then again, in a rat eat rat world, would stcking a rat kebab out on display relly discourage them, or attract more to the free food on offer??

I've trapped moles before and one of the ways the landowner used to know the molecatcher was doing his job was for him to pin the moles on the barb wire fencing! Bit ghoulish, but irrefutable evidence!
