    GardenPoultry - epetition response | Number10.gov.uk

Petition: "Please abolish by-laws relating to keeping chickens in gardens"

Gov't: "Keeping chickens is a great idea, but please check your local bye-laws first"

Shouldn't this be on the 'Rant' thread!

That's typical of politicians though, they never actually answer a question - don't get me started ...

I shall be teaching my chooks how to poo on ministerial and councillors shoes forthwith.

        What a rubbish reply.

I have put a couple of petitions on there myself and so have a few friends of mine. Every petition gets the same response, a load of waffle with no real relevance to the question asked.
          It STINKS !
Why won't someone just read the petition, have a meeting and then write a proper response with some relevance !

If they'd just said "We're sorry, the way laws work in this country means that we can't do that", that would have been better than that meaningless waffle!

I noticed this. It sounds like the waffle Tony Blair is producing at the latest hearing -sorry, I thought there WERE weapons of mass destruction but even if there weren't, I'd have thought of another reason to go to war with Iraq.

That's why this online petition system is a joke. I bet they hire the local work experience boys from the local HM prison.

You can always expect something like that response from anything to do with the government.

It actually reminds me of my old school essays. Get given a question and pages later of writing - the question still wasn't answered........ :-)

I was wishing to stand as a local councillior or even a MP. However can't come up with the money, which does get returned should I get a percentage of the vote.

I've had a reply from my MP Talk about skirting the issue!!!!

                          Quote:
                          Maureen,
You contacted me to urge me to sign two Early Day Motions (EDMs) about the welfare of hens. In June I was made a Minister in the Government for the very first time. I am in the Department for Energy & Climate Change and I am finding the work very satisfying. However, it does mean that I am unable to sign EDMs because I cannot call in public for changes in government policy. I hope you can understand. What I can say in response to your message is that previously I spent three separate stints in Defra as a PPS (an unpaid Ministerial aide) and animal welfare was high up my priorities always. I continue to have good links with a number of farmers, farmers' organisations (like NFU) and groups interested in farming (like RSPCA, Soil Association and so on) so I maintain my interest. I will certainly take account of the views you express and the views set out in the two EDMs in my further dealings with Defra Ministers.

                          I hope this is helpful.

Does that mean that now he's a minister he can't represent his constituents?

Find out who his opposite number is and contact them instead, after all they might well be doing is job this time next year.
