  • WARNING - Bad eBay Experience!

    Hi Guys!

I just wanted to warn you about a chicken coop supplier and his underhand methods of trying to sell his products for higher prices than he lists them for!

We recently took the decision to get ourselves a chook house and run for xmas, and found the perfect one on ebay, winning the 2nd auction we bid on. Great news, but only the start of a saga which appears to be us vs someone who only wants to sell to you if you pay top money!

A week later after hearing nothing we emailed the seller, to be told they were having delivery problems, as their courier wouldnt deliver as the item was 10cm too big (hmm, not really my problem, but more a case of it was going to cost him more for delivery than he had allowed, which I also offered to pay half of any difference if he used another courier), but his son was going to Scotland and would deliver it sometime on the Tuesday, great we replied, one of us will be in and have a brew n mince pies waiting!

Tuesday I finished work early (I was owed some hours back) to go and relieve Lee so he could go to work on time, then at 8pm we got an email saying the van had been broken into and the dashboard damaged, so it wouldnt be coming, and he didnt know when it would arrive.

I replied, thats ok, as long as we get it in the not too distant future, along with a list of dates and times when we would be in.

Next morning I got an email saying sorry for messing you around, I've cancelled your order and refunded your money as I dont know when it will be possible to deliver. I replied saying that we didnt want to cancel, and that we hadnt agreed to cancel, that we wanted the goods specified at the price we won the auction for, and if the delivery was such a problem, then he should immediately remove all of the other 57 of the same items (that were at higher prices) that he was still selling on ebay that were with delivery.

He then emailed us back saying he didnt need difficult customers, and that if we wanted it we could collect, as that was the only way we would get one from him. I replied that as we both work full time and have small cars it wasnt possible, hence the reason we had bought from someone on ebay who said they were able to deliver.

And since then I've heard nothing more from him!

Looking a little deeper it appears that although hes been listing on ebay since 2005, hes only ever sold the chicken coop we bought for more than £170 plus delivery, although the auction that we bid on first (and didnt win) was won by another bidder for £147, but no feedback left or received for that transaction (and strangely enough, that bidder has only ever bid on 2 items, both from the same person, for the identical thing and won both of them!)

He has been reported to ebay, negative feedback has been left and has also been reported to Trading Standards, who are looking into a 'loss of bargain' claim for me (potentially he could be liable for the difference between what he was supposed to sell the item to me for and what I would have to pay to get an equivalent item from another seller).

Thanks to this guys lack of customer service we are now both very disappointed and upset, with our only xmas prezzie to each other now no longer being delivered, all because it appears he doesnt want to sell to us because we won his auction for too cheap a price!

Xmas is now ruined and our hopes of getting chooks in the next few weeks are sadly disappointed!

Please, please, please spread the word, feel free to post it to your blogs and other forums to get the word out there about his underhand ways of selling!

THIS COOP IS PRICED TO CLEAR. WE WON'T BE SELLING THEM AGAIN. WHEN THERE GONE, THERE GONE!!
£149 for a big coop like that ... no wonder he didn't want to sell it! It's been relisted at a starting price of £199

I wonder how long it would have lasted though? Is it made with really cheap thin timber?
You might have had a lucky escape.

Sorry Mrs. D, but as they say, if sommat looks to good to be true, it probably is

I'm with TS, above - you had a lucky escape, it wouldn't have lasted a year unless you kept it indoors! For that money you could buy a shed! Sorry

That's really sh***y is that"!!! Poor you two Could you not get a small shed and convert it and add a run to it yourselves? It's very difficult with you both being at work though, I do understand that. Pity you're not near me, I'd have come and done it for you xxx

Sorry to hear that you have been messed about and let down by this person. But it could be for the best as I suspect the quality of this item would have been less than satisfying

"These are lightweight units, and care should be taken when putting them together. We make many Chicken Coops, Hutches & Aviaries for customers at our premises, and in comparison, Chinese products tend to use thinner timbers, hence the price."

            Oooh, the saga continues!

Email from him telling me my feedback was totally innapropriate as it states on the listing that local delivery only, which he has now ammended his current listings to show, but the listings we bid upon did say delivery to mainland uk!

sounds like although you are dissapointed, you probably got away with it lightly. your original receipt from ebay should state on it whether it was local or national delivery, i would use that in a dispute with ebay. they will hammer him appropriatly.

in the meantime, all is not lost. you could look at the "build your own" section in the sticky section and get creating your own!there ar esome basic plans for the types of run we use here - could get you started at least?

I'll let ebay sort it out with him, but he's really taken the sheen off the whole prospect of getting chooks! We were really looking forwards to getting the run up in the back yard and getting some girls, but now I'm just soo deflated that it wont be the same, it'll be an anticlimax now.

We could build one, but with us both working full time and only having 1 day a week off together its not a practical short term solution, especially as we've the 2 plots to look after and the bees in our first apiary (and a second apiary under construction), so we were looking at buying something to allow us to start asap.

Ah well, I suppose we'll just have to keep looking.........

I know that this is slightly above your eBay purchase price, but as a start would this be of any interest? not seen it myself, just took the link from another forum. Everything (including chooks) for £190. Inlcudes layers pellets, corn, Verm-X, droppings tray, straw, woodshavings and the hen house and run.

Thanks Bramble, its a nice enough run, but with having a bad back I was looking for something I could walk into to look after them rather than having to bend down, hence the one we bid on being perfect for the job.

Have you looked at Shromanco on ebay? I've had 3 coops from him all well made and good quality timber. He's based in Whitchurch Shropshire. One hut I have is 5 years old and still perfect and waterproof. He's not the cheapest but you do get what you pay for. Does a few with walk in runs.

Lol, always fancied one of them, they are supposed to be good for your back arent they?

Think part of my back problems stem from the fact that I am farily tall, I've longer to bend than most! Lol!
