  • They keep trying to get away!

I have had to resort to clipping the wings of 2 of my new girls. They have managed to escape from a 6 foot run 3 days running. I am not bothered about them in my garden, but we are flanked by neighbours with big dogs and jack russels.

I hope we took enough off the wings, I was a bit nervous but proud of myself now.

Let's hope it curtails their activities!

My old girls have never got out in 2 years!

You did just clip 1 wing didn't you? Clipping both makes no difference, 1 done makes them off-balance when they try to fly
My girls found their way into my heart and now they nest there

having said that Mo, i went up to my mothers last weekend, and clipped the wings of her pekins, I clipped only the left wing of each bird.

I then sat and watched as the little swine, jumped as high as they could up the netting, then using their beak and claws, flapped the wings and "walked" up the rest of the 6' net and over the top.

Mum will have to resort to putting a mesh over hang along the top to stop them walking out!

"them chickens is up to summat!"

Is looking forward to Janey's new chooks standing still long enough for her to name them

They surely are an entertaining read

ps You'd better hope the new girls don't teach the old girls their norty flighty ways

We find we have to do both wings on some of our birds. One wing clipped is often not enough, although it does throw them off balance, but a really determined one will get out any way it can.

I am not well enough today to go chasing any darn chooks so they best stay put!
I only did one wing, but wasn't sure how much to cut so may have to go a bit further. Just did the first 10 feathers, about 2 inches.

I swear my old girls are laughing at the new ones for getting into so much trouble!

They do have names now - the 2 naughty brown ones are Edna and Ethel. The Rhode Island who's a bit snooty as yet, is Edwina. (like an ex gov official of the same name lol).

Fingers crossed for no dramas today.

ps they like chips and ginger biscuits!
