right - sorry for the delay in writing - we have been at the federation show today in stafford (as aunty mo didnt let down my tyres so i couldnt go, i ended up spending money on birds i probably didnt need!)
Scaley leg - we use Frontline spray on scaley leg. We find that vaseline is too greasey for fethered legs and attracts dirt and general crud on to the feathers. it works fine on unfeathered legs, but on Pekins, Barbu, Cochins and the like its a non starter.
we have used surgical spirit the once, but found that he birds winced when we did it so figured it must cause discomfort to them. Therefore, the frontline spray (kitten spray not the spot on) works on anything that crawls on a chicken. Red Mite, Scaley Mite, Lice etc its great. Just tell the vet you have a kitten that needs de-flea work. otherwise he wont prescribe it for a chicken as its not licenced for them, however the active ingredient is, so our vet just winks and asks how our kitten is doing. The vet nurse has sussed us i think as she comments that our kitten must be nearly two years old and should be on frontline properly now......
As for brahma - what do you think to this chap? he was at the federation - stunnerAttached Files

I saw that one too Really stunning!!! Lots of gorgeous (and not so gorgeous IMHO) birds there and it's really made next years' project a lot easier for me now I've seen them "in the flesh". I'm not keen on birds with feathery feet or the ones with fancy combs so I'm in the market for Croad Langshans (ok, I know they've got feathery legs, but they don't look like Ugg boots)My girls found their way into my heart and now they nest there

Thanks Corax and BP for those pic's ....shucks I want some too ... am worried about all them feet feathers though...Never test the depth of the water with both feet
The only reason people get lost in thought is because it's unfamiliar territory....
Always remember you're unique, just like everyone else.

Eco - The colouration of the Brahma in the piccie is classed as a "dark Brahma" apparently according to the show catalogue!! It a lovely pencilling effect isn;t it?
RT - in the winter when it is really muddy lots of breeders we know trim the feathers from the feet (just like clipping wings) stops them getting muddy. You can also do this to assist with medicating them.
Thanks for Bday greeting folks had a great day!! (how did you all know anyways?)
