Hi Petal - I had heard about gay ducks but there they are - how cute! Your picture of the happy family made me chuckle this morning!
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

Hayley says their mother was a call duck so perhaps she met a wild mallard. very pretty though are they not? There is a lake on the southill estate where they are free to go once they are brave enough, if they are half wild I don't want to cramp their style!

They are wild ducks I assumed that they were call ducks as I thought that's what the collective term for this type of duck was

They look beautiful Petal, and very proud Daddys. Their sisters are not impressed by ice over their pond and they were hysterical on their first experience of snow.

Ooh they are very handsome Daddies.

I expect the ducklings will lose their ugliness in the fullness of time. They are cute though

Call duck is a small duck with noisy females bred to call down wild ducks, Mallard is the natural colour of wild ducks from which all (or nearly all) domestic ducks descend (this excludes Muscovies and possibly one or two exotic types, I don't know about eiders and Mandarins though the former isn't domesticated) as well as being the name they are known by.... hope this makes sense......

Donald and Daffy's sisters (Crispy & Aromatic) are very noisy little girls and they are not impressed with their frozen pond. Thinking of getting some Khakis next year to fill out their pen as they have tons of room for just two of them.

two aylesbury ducks ate around the same amount as 12 chooks .... a week when given the chance, they eat all night too if given the opportunity .... which gives an excessive amount of the smelliest poo i've ever come across .... never again lol
