My honesty box is like a miniature nestbox, complete with straw and a perspex front.
I bury the egg boxes in the straw and up til now none have cracked that I know about.
I had a dozen in the box for couple of particularily cold days and nights and decided I'd better try them myself. Made ham and egg pies with them and they were delish! My Majesty made for him a garden anew in order

My OH, who insists the girls are mine and nothing to do with him, has put a thermometer in the coop today 'cos he's worried the girls are too cold. He said it was 4 degrees earlier, don't know what it is now though as it's too slippery for me to go outside and he's not done the nightly check yet. Not sure what heating he's got planned if the temp is below freezing.

The chooks should all be fine inside their coops, they're all wearing their duvets to keep warm and snuggling up to each other too. As long as they're dry and out of draughts there shouldn't be a problem. I really must remember to do a late egg collection thoughMy girls found their way into my heart and now they nest there

Well..............the frost finally got through to my eggs in the honesty box.........twelve cracked eggs after last nights ridiculously low temperatures.
I'll wait until they thaw out (about March the way we are going!) then beat them all up in some chook pellets with some poultry spice added as an extra protein kick for the chooks! My Majesty made for him a garden anew in order
