  • DESPERATE HELP needed! Rehoming problem on Christmas Eve

    Hi everyone.
    Merry Christmas!
Well, it could only happen to me couldn't it? Guess what Lynda - Fanny has just been renamed Frederick!!
I've just heard the biggest ever cock-a-doodle from the run.
Just been in the check and Fanny, sorry, Frederick does have a very prounounced comb (this has happened over the last couple of weeks) but being a novice, I hadn't a clue.
BIG problem is, if the neighbours hear him, that will be it, they will complain and both myself and my neighbour will have to get rid of our birds. (My neighbour did check with the council and we can keep hens BUT).
SO the big question is, can anyone rehome Frederick ASAP?
I know it's a big ask, and I don't know what I'm going to do if I can't (I'm not going there actually).
If anyone can help, or know of someone who can, please can you PM me as a matter of urgency?
    Thanks everyone.
    Bernie

fingers crossed it gets sorted xx

( have a quick word with your neighbours to explain it'll take a few days, es as it's Xmas. Maybe invite a few of them over to look at him- they may be more sympathetic once they can relate to him!)

I sympathise. We had 3 boys we couldn't keep. If you have to do the deed I can tell you the relief once it's all over is easier than the stress and upset before it happens. Hopefully you'll have better luck than I did re-homing. One word of caution, if you re-home make sure you know the person taking Fred. I offered my 3 for free and was then warned this could encourage someone to take a cock and then use him for 'bait' in cockfighting. This would be a far worse fate than culling.

I'm not allowed to keep cockerels either Bernie............but I've got four of them!

Sorry can't help with your plight, but good luck with finding him a new home.

PS You coud advertise 'Free to a good home' in the local free ads paper..........but leave it until after the new year or else he may finish up on the festive table!

I have to laugh, otherwise I'd cry - Drew did keep saying that if they didn't lay any eggs before Christmas............................!

Aww Bernie, wish I could, was he one of the RIR/Lt Suss x? I took her Lav Araucana, a maran and three of the x s. One of them was a boy too, but I knew it when I took them. He's a lovely little chap now called Scooby (as in Scooby Doo where are you), but I've now got so many cockerals I just daren't. can you stuff him in a cat box indoors under a blackout cover at night? If he doesn't crow early in the am the neighbiurs might not mind him crowing during the day, if he's like his bro he wont be too noisy once he's got over the shock of having a big voice.

sorry Bernie hope you get someone quick. Sorry to say, but Drew is better off making a roast rather than you losing all your girls

                  A HUGE THANK YOU
To Over Wyre Grower for her very kind offer to re-home Fanny aka Frederick.
What a super Christmas present for me. I was so worried that we may not be able to rehome him.
Thanks for making my Christmas Shelley.
                  Love Bernie

Few tears from me, to be honest.
