My poor Warren Betty died suddenly this morning. She was in the house with a compacted crop until Christmas Eve when she was a lot better and was placed back outside, but inside the playhouse, not in the run with the others. Come Christmas morning when I checked on her she was out of her box and dashed over to the run like normal. Her crop was fine and she had been weaned back onto normal food. She has since then run round with the rest of them in and out of the run with no problems, no neck movements for past few days, everything fine and very lively in herself. Opened the hen house door and as always they dash out, Betty came out and stood at the top of the ramp and fell off and just lay there. I placed her in a box but she then died. Poor thing.

That's a bit of a shock after making such a wonderful recovery
Nice to hear she spent her last hours with her mates though...and well done for nursing her so well.

Oh dear, commiserations MrsC, but well done on nursing her so well. One of my ex-free-rangers that I homed last Christmas has an ongoing crop problem. I actually named her 'Penny' short for pendulum, as that's what her crop looks like when she runs over to me, as it sways from side to side I massage it on a regular basis, but she free-ranges with the others, scratches around and eats normally, so I don't pay it much thought. Thanks to you and this thread (and others) I now know what to do should her situation deteriorate. Big ((((HUGS)))) to you from me and (all!) my 'Laydees'All the best - Glutton 4 Punishment

So sorry, having had the same with omlet and losing her yesterday, I know how upsetting it is to do everything and still have the problem
I only wish that I could learn from this, but apart from longer grass I really dont know caused it all, especially the 2nd time since there was no medium/long grass around
I'm sure betty and Omlet will make friends where they have gone

Awww....
sad news.
Asd you said, Mrs C, at least she went quickly and painlessly. I'm just going through past posts catching up, and it's very sad after your struggle with her crop and nursing her back to health. I wonder if it was something else, as Betty seemed to have made a good recovery. You just never know, but (((Hugs)))
