  • Is this a wellsummer?????

Hi guys, Can you have a look at one of my photos. In it is a buff coloured girl and a cream/grey legbar. I was sold the buff as a wellsummer, but not sure she is one. Any ideas???

Sorry, I dont know how to add pics to this message.

    Cheers

    Gill

Welsummer hens have a brown body and a golden ruff (neck feathers). They lay large dark brown eggs. They are my favourite bird. The cocks are generally thought of as having the traditional farmyard rooster look - black and red body feathering with shimmery greeny black tails. Big boys too.

By the way, the description of your "Summer Pudding" on the other thread sounds like she is a Buff Sussex - buff body with black ruff and tail?

I've got 2 Welsummer girls, let's see if yours looks like mine

Once you've done that, you can click on "Preview Changes" to make sure you're happy with what you've done, then click "Save Changes" Bob's your Uncle (Good luck)

This picture is of my Welsummer cockerel when he was 7 months and you can just about see one of his sisters slightly behind him and another in the background.

What a smashing looking bird he is too - stunning!

I love the colour of the females - I think they're my favourite to look at

Sorry GS i would say no, shes buff with a few markings rather than brown patterned all over. I've got a hen who has the same markings exactly, but on an almost white background colour and her dad was lt sussex/welsummer x. But if you get a pic on someone with more knowledge may recognise the breed for you

Just been and had a look at your photos Gill. Your hen looks just like one of my crosses - she is a Buff Sussex cross Welsummer. She has a full sister who has more of the Welsummer patterning. They are the result of mating a Buff Sussex cock with a Welsummer hen.

Thanks for you help everyone. I think she must be a cross which is a bit annoying as I paid extra for her to be a wellsummer. Well! lesson learnt I wont be buying from Howden again.

Mad? No, not at all, but a real character. He's probably the sanest most laid-back TB you've ever met - even on a windy day He'll be 18 this year, but still thinks he's 4!
