  • Change of attitude

having lost a bluebelle recently,we have had a change of pecking order, the other bluebelle was also timid, but now the worm has turned.the usually dominant blackrock has had a few shocks, when the door of the coop is opened in the morning, down comes minnie (blackrock) and half way down the ramp she is shoved aside by the now larger bluebelle, moving at top speed. minnie just stands there looking confused, looking around, trying to work out whats happening, only to be pushed aside by bella again as she heads for the hot layers pellets mash.when there was two of them, they just stepped aside, now she is like a stroppy teenager, with the attitude to match. a real joy to watch.

I had a similar thing happen with a Light Sussex (now sadly departed) She was always being picked on by the other purebreds until I moved her in with a flock of ISA brown's where she became the aggressor and became top of the pecking order?

Aaaah asserting herself at last! Mine have had a change in pecking order as well. Since the dog attack they suffered last year, Belinda, the one that was most badly injured is now the leader now she is all healed and the next most badly shaken up chook is now an absolute coward- it's taken months for her to stop squawking every time I try to stroke her!! Belinda now rules the roost instead of being at the bottom of the pecking order.
