  • cod liver oil?

Got 5 ltr of cod liver oil today as we always give it the dogs. I have read that it's good for chooks too. What's the best way to get it into them? food, drinks or a direct dose.
    TIA

Mix a teaspoonful in with their pellets I do that, it helps anything else you're giving them to stick to the food too, things like wormer, medication, poultry spice, limestone flour etc. Don't overdo it though, more isn't any more good than a "normal" dose, and you'd end up with fishy tasting eggs
My girls found their way into my heart and now they nest there

I put a good teaspoonful in their morning mash 2 or 3 times a week along with any other extras. That's between 15 chooks.

I think you can give it at any time - it helps them to absorb calcium so it protects against soft shells.

PS not too much at once - fishy eggs aren't good!

In theory they shouldn't need it in summer as the sun produces the Vitamin D which is what helps absorb the calcium. I don't bother but maybe once a week if you're having problems with shell quality.
