  • just a thought to keep the cold away

    Hi All,

I thought I would share, what I have done to try and keep the winter chill from the coop overnight.

I advertised on freecycle for a horse blanket, I'm told that once a horse rug gets ripped they are thrown out

Although better to do it around October time, when they take them out and decide they want new rugs. However, anytime is good because horses are always getting into trouble for ripping them

Anyway, I have placed one over my coop and they are a great fit, the flap at the front is ideal, although lets in air, shields the vents from direct blasts of cold winds and snow

Anyway, with a couple of ex batts now settling into the main coop, its been great to have the extra warmth, althogh 5 together should start seeing the coop a bit warmer anyway

What a good idea! Ive just spent a short while putting loft insulation into a single duvet and putting it onto the top of the hutch, but have a friend who has horses, will ask her asap.

We had some old rugs of a large size that we have put over the henhouse. I also took it off the garden and have put the henhouse under the gazebo on the patio for the winter. This keeps chook feetses dry too....not that they have ventured on to the garden in the snow!
