Hi Hilly they arent laying yet this will be their first year. What are you going to do with the eggs? I have been told they are canadian x geese piccies below but not sure.
Mine are chinese x Wall. You cant see on the photo but Sid has some small patches of colour either side and a bigish patch on his back, dont know what the other half of the cross is.
Chinese are supposedly reasonable layers, although geese dont lay as well as chooks of course. I'll sell eggs for hatching or eating I think, although rather tempted to hatch a few.
As a further to the 'ppppick up a goose' comments I tried it. Grabbed Sid's scruff as he went for me, turned alongside and calmly picked him up and spoke firmly to him. He went very quiet, and has behaved better since, when he hisses at me I just say 'give over' and he backs off. BUT he's bloomin heavy, I'd say around 12k, her around 7k. Al tried it and said 'nice size for Xmas' ...he's still got the bruises
If you get fed up of yours....I'm not that far off
Thanks Hilly I may give that a thought. I do like them though in particular the battles between them and the chickens the gander was running around with a cockeral attached the other day that'll teach him
