  • Wood/leaf chippings from the tree surgeon

    Hi All

I've had a load delivered from a local tree surgeon, he dumps aload of his shredded leaf/tree stuff and wondered if these would be okay for the floor of the run. its a bit muddy as we've had nothing but rain since the snow left us.
So I was thinking these would be okay

But I dont want to open up to health issues etc?

Also branches from a huge christmas tree? could they be used or would chickens eat them or harm themselves

Ordinary tree chippings are great - I'd be a bit wary about conifers though. Unless, as they say, someone knows different!

We have tons delivered on the allotment site by the tree surgeon who does the work for the council. I use them in the runs and on the paths on the lottie which the chooks have access to when free ranging. Wonderful stuff - composts down a treat when mixed with mud and chicken poo!
