If you are happy taking it in and out then fine. It just sounds rather a faff that's all. If the birds roost on perches then there is no need to have anything on the floor at all. I just chuck a few handfuls of shavings down to absorb any wet poo. Each house is cleaned out twice a week with everything scraped up using a child's plastic spade and a trowel, straight into a bucket and then more shavings chucked down. Quick and clean and done in 5 mins per house.

I have a piece of solid rubber matting in my girls house. I like it because I just lift the whole thing out complete with shavings and poo, give the remainder of shavings a sweep up, then disinfect, leave to dry and replace with a dusting of red mite powder. I have read everyones comments about red mite and am keeping a keen eye open for any signs.

If you waterproof top AND bottom, make sure it stays 110% waterproof, because not-quite-waterproof is EXACTLY the conditions that lead to rot! Water WILL find a way in to any nearly-waterproof situation, and then it can't evaporate away. Ever gone for a walk in intermittent rain wearing a waterproof with a small hole? By the time you get home you are wetter than if you hadn't worn a waterproof at all, because you don't dry off when the rain stops for a while!
That is why I described ways to let air get to the underside!

Didn't bother with the damp-proofing under the shed. The blooming thing was so cheap it doesn't seem worth the bother - it is looking very jerry built despite our best efforts to ensure everything being level. I guess the hens won't mind though
