                        thanks for all your comments. she was only 18months old. i put her in a box and brought her indoors just to make her comfortable. she passed very quietly. i think it was a egg laying problem as she had nt laid in a while. she in chicken heaven now.

                          our girls are funny little beings aren't they, on the one hand so strong and tough, immune to frost and snow, able to go days without sustenance then just bounce back, always a beedy eye on their simple world, but then at the same time if the egg equiptment goes wrong they are so fragile, i too lost a young hen in this way, it's why i joined this forum, all the best to you and your remaining girls, happy lives and lots of scratching and pecking in the sun, however short or long, it's the quality not the quantity that counts xx
