I got my first hens on sat 3 sussex star, i went to a farm shop nearby and they had 3 diff to pick from i prefered that than getting hens shipped from miles away and i am totally in love with it, i get up earlier in the morning to let them out and watch there morning antics. they have given me 4 eggs so far thats an egg a day so im pleased as i didnt think they would start laying for a couple of weeks till they settled in. im more confident with them than i thought. i bought a bog standard house and run from ebay which is adaquate just now but i can defo see me getting more in the future, they dont make any noise in comparison to the dog up the road that obviously gets shut out the back at half 5 every morning and the kids inc mine that run about the street.
The only downsides are they poo wherever they like inc on there food and water, in bed and on my back door step and they do dig at the ground but im lucky i hadnt got round to planting any nice flowers yet the other downside is my rabbits are really jealous and are not talking to me know they thought the house and run was for them and i am giving the hens a bit more attention opps.
My advise would be go for it its so addictive one of the best things ive done in a long time.
