  • Anyone tried dowsing to sex eggs?

I've tried candling eggs, but I haven't got a bright enough bulb. Well thats my excuse anyway So with all the power cuts we've had I was wondering if I will hatch anything, and what I would get if I did. At which point on a rootle round the good old net I came on mention of dowsing.
    So..dont laugh..Im trying it.
On one egg I'm sure is clear the crystal didnt even twitch, and on two others. But on the others Ive tried its either swung or circled. So Ive marked the shells and when/if they hatch I shall stick leg bands on to see how accurate it is.

Anyone else done it, and how accurate did you find it.?
And PS..I cant dowse water with sticks, but can with metal

I will be very interested to see the results of your experiment.

Fingers crossed you get something hatching.

Hilly, I did this last year with my first ever hatching of Welsummers. I was laughed at by my friends (and family) when I told them there were 6 girls, 2 boys and 4 "don't knows". When they hatched, I had 2 boys, 6 girls and 4 duds. Might be co-incidence but it's spooky I still do it on the chicks, that's why my new ones are called Claudia and Coriander. You watch, now I've told you they'll start crowing in about 4 months!!

I talked to a guy who does this and reckons it's 85% accurate. Not sure what to use as a pendulum though. What did you use Hilly and Mo? Might give it a go before I candle!

Hmmm, have you heard of the ideometer effect?

hadnt seen that capsid. interesting, but doesnt explain why some people can and some cant, or why you can get accurate results when you dont know the answers, by guessing you have a lower percentage accuracy than some people can get by dowsing. As i said above i can find land drains with metal rods..but not with wood of any kind. If it was purely down to involuntary reflexs then id get the same result off either surely.

Suechooks, I'm using a crystal..one of those drop shaped ones you can get for hanging in windows. On a piece of nylon thread. I held it still resting my hand over a box for support, then OH slid the eggs under one by one due to hatch next weekend, so wont have long to wait for results. Maureen has convinced me that its worth doing the other half of the eggs tonight

There was a test done on water dowsers in Australia. They were asked to use their rods to detect water flowing though tubes. Remarkably, they could detect the water everytime when they walked over the tubes when they knew water was flowing though them. But when they didn't know which tube had water flowing through it then they failed to pick the right tube.

I used a piece of Jet that my friend made into a pendant for me, but (it's a long story!!!!) I've used anything from a needle and thread to a ring on a chain. I'm not always 100% accurate, but on average it's into the 90's. I just do it out of curiosity, not for any other reason ............................ I'd never dump any eggs that I think are boys for example. It works for some people and doesn't for others

When I worked in a nursing home the deputy matron (who was a qualified midwife) said she could dowse how many children women would have. Funnily enough me she said none..spot on. My mate who had a schoolage girl and no partner due to divorce she said two...and I later heard that shes now remarried, and had a baby boy. 'nother mate wasnt sure, said yes, but not sure..she met her husband a year later, and became a stepmum. Think she was only wrong with one.. and she said two, but the girl had one, then twins.
