  • limestone flour and chicken spice

    Hello chicken lovers
A quick question from Avril my neighbour. As you now her ex batteries were laying thin shelled eggs. After much excellent advice from you all she has bought chicken spice and limestone flour. She has been giving the chicken spice and wants to know if the limestone flour can be added at the same time?

Also to let you know that here new hatched hens laid me a beautiful blue egg on my birthday last week. What a treat!

Many thanks again and Avril sends her kind regards

You can give them at the same time. I wouldn't overdo the amount - give what it says on the tin. However, it might be worth adding a drop or two of cod liver oil when she gives limestone flour - it helps with the absorption of the calcium.

My fussy lot won't eat their limestone flour or crushed/baked egg shell if I put it in with their pellets. They don't like Poultry Spice either! I get round it by adding it to their veggie bowls in the afternoon - it all goes then!

my poultry spice goes in layers mixed with warm water, with a dash of cod liver oil. My souffle wont touch the tub with the grit in, so I tend to throw some on the grown and also in her favourite sand pit, only way I could achieve harder shelled eggs
