Fox Damage

Fox Damage, Might sound a bit of a morbid question but prevention being better than cure, Have setup our Chicken coop in the garden now and made it as secure as we can. Have heard and read a few posts about fox’s damaging chicken coops trying to get in. Can anyone tell me what sort of damage they can do?

This way if there are any possible vulnerable areas of the chicken coop then I can fix this.

We have the following Coop, what sort of damaged could a fox do to it?

I have already replaced the roof and reinforced all the bottom wood and dug down panels of gravel board to try to stop digging around the sides.

What else can we do?

you could surround the coop with anti fox missiles! not sure apart from elctric wire, i dread it happening as i havn't yet ordered my wire

hi there hinksy,
how about screwing in some stand off ring insulators (link 1) about 6" above ground level & use a small energiser (link 2) connected to a short length of electric fencing wire.

I have used this around the top & bottom of open runs & never had any fox problems. However I have seen one or two touch the wire & flee in surprise. hee hee chickens 1 reynard 0

Bought a Sonic Fox Alarm the other day and was just looking at buying a water scarecrow. Did think of a electric fence but how safe are they with kids about?

As with cats and dogs- one zap and they'll keep away!
I watched a newly born donkey foal decide to lick an electric fence once...the anticipation nearly killed me...poor little thing lept back about 6 feet...but it never tried it again!

I have brick or slab paths round the outside of mine. Let's see foxy dig into that! Floor is also slabs with a thick layer of wood chippings to scratch in.

Lock the lid of the nest box and I put a peg to jam the pophole shut if it's an up and down one.

That's just what I was going to say The fox got into my coop through the nest box last year, just lifted the lid and had all 13 of them All external nest boxes now have hasps and eyes and are padlocked down! I don't bother to open the lids now, just go inside the coop and collect from there (it's a walk-in one so no probs)
