Thats started my Saturday with a smile Nicos congrats
Pics to come too, yep good start to the day.
i was looking at marans at an auction and obviously looking bemused (actually thats my normal expression) so the guy next to me asked why. I told him i couldnt see why some had feathery legs and others didn't, and his answer was 'French Marans do usually, British don't but they are still all pure Maran'. As he bred em I took his word for it.

Corax Aurata has gone into the Marans thing (a lot of her birds are Marans), and 'French feathered feet, British not' is what she tells me. The breed is (as I'm sure you know) originally French, so she mostly keeps the feathery type.
I know she is not going to be able to post for another couple of weeks, so I thought I would post this now.
Flowers come in too many colours to see the world in black-and-white.
Thank you muchly xxx

Yup- they're rather sweet aren't they- can you see the feathers on their outer toes and legs???
I think they are copper black Marans. Interestingly 1/4 of the cockerels and chooks were white Marans and they all ran and laid in the same place , so they are not pure- although even the white ones lay dark brown eggs.
( I may well be nipping back in a few weeks to buy a few more eggs!!!)
